The World Darts Championship is heating up, and the second round is already taking shape! Tuesday night saw some incredible performances and nail-biting finishes. Let's dive into the highlights from Alexandra Palace.
Gerwyn Price, fueled by the roaring crowd, dominated his match against Adam Gawlas, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory. Price showcased his skills with six 180s and a stellar 96.44 average, despite some struggles with his doubles, missing 17 out of 26 attempts. He's now set to face Wesley Plaisier in the next round. Price expressed his gratitude for the crowd's support, emphasizing the importance of their backing as he strives to climb back into the world's top four.
Danny Noppert also secured a spot in the second round, overcoming a slow start to defeat Jurjen van der Velde 3-1. Van der Velde's attempt to ward off a wasp with insect spray didn't deter Noppert, who finished strong with a near-perfect final leg.
Ricardo Pietreczko impressed with a 3-1 win against Jose de Sousa, and Joe Comito upset Niko Springer with the same score.
Chris Dobey, a semi-finalist from last year, advanced with a 3-1 win over Zong Xiaochen. Dobey faced some early challenges with missed doubles, allowing his opponent to level the match. However, he managed to regroup and secure the victory.
Scott Williams, another former semi-finalist, cruised to a 3-0 win against Paolo Nebrida. Justin Hood also had a clean sweep, whitewashing Welshman Nick Kenny.
And then there was Alan Soutar's epic match! He missed a staggering 15 match darts before finally overcoming Teemu Harju in a sudden-death leg. Soutar's struggles in the fourth set were particularly dramatic, missing his first 10 darts for the match. Harju also missed four match darts before Soutar clinched the victory.
