Created by Glace Chase and Basil Hogios, and developed within Assemblage’s creative hub The Cube, this piece takes place in the Flinders Drama Centre Rehearsal Room. The Cube, equipped with 32-speaker sound technology, creates an immersive environment where sound and live performance intertwine.
The play centers around three characters entangled in a complex web of intimacy, memory, and emotional dependency. The central character's musical sensitivity shapes their inner world, which begins to overshadow reality. This unique setting allows artists and students to experiment with how spatial sound and live performance can influence audience perceptions of character, intimacy, and emotional rupture.
The cast includes Glace Chase, Gerrard McArthur, and Oscar Baldwin, a third-year acting student. McArthur's return to Adelaide is a significant event, building on his long-standing association with Flinders Drama Centre and local audiences, dating back to the 2000 Adelaide Festival production of Howard Barker's The Ecstatic Bible.
Wrestling with Catastrophe: Ensemble Creation
Immediately following Oranges and Lemons, Gerrard McArthur takes on the director's chair for Wrestling with Catastrophe, a major ensemble project honoring Howard Barker's 80th birthday. This production brings together student performers and theatre-makers from across the Drama Centre, exploring Barker's distinctive theatrical language through image-making, heightened text, and ensemble experimentation.
The project also features two-time Tony Award-winning lighting designer Nigel Levings, whose international and Australian career will provide students with invaluable insights into professional theatrical design and collaboration.
