The New Town Hall of Scharrachbergheim, a small Alsatian village, is a masterpiece of architecture that seamlessly blends contemporary design with a timeless, rooted aesthetic. AL PEPE architects have crafted a building that not only integrates into the village's landscape but also enhances it. The design team's vision was to create a structure that exudes horizontality and transparency, mirroring the village's colombages and the surrounding trees. The wooden structure's external regular framework emphasizes the public dimension of the building while ensuring a refined and elegant appearance. The dark, velvety pine tar and the sizing of the wooden columns echo the village's colombages and the site's trees, creating a harmonious connection between the building and its surroundings. The corten steel expanded mesh cladding adds a woven texture to the facade, reminiscent of the local Vosges sandstone, a stone prevalent in the historic village. This contemporary design is both rigorous and gentle, as if it has always been an integral part of the village's history.
