Venezuela, a nation often viewed through a political lens, has been a symbol of ideological divides. The right uses it as a tool to discredit left-wing politics, while the left tends to avoid the topic due to its uncomfortable authoritarian drift. However, this perspective overlooks the human consequences, such as the suffering endured by the majority of Venezuelans. The US intervention, therefore, carries significant weight for those facing daily challenges within the country.
Geopolitical Precedents and Risks
From an international standpoint, the US attack raises serious concerns. Historical examples like Iraq and Libya demonstrate how toppling authoritarian regimes can lead to prolonged instability and violence. Despite the opposition's victory, rights violations persisted without immediate consequences.
